February is only just one week away so that means Valentines Day is quickly approaching! I’m always looking for fun gift ideas that are inexpensive and more personal. In the words of the goddess JLo, “my love don’t cost a thing.” Well, for this mama, maybe it costs a few bucks in the form of a latte.
I found this tutorial via leblogdartlex.com on +Pinterest and I had to try it out! I highly suggest visiting the site for more gorgeous DIY’s plus the reading will give you a good laugh. This DIY Chalkboard Mug is so clever. The sweetest part of this idea is that you can constantly change it with your mood. Use it to surprise someone when you invite them over for coffee or to take a quick Saturday morning selfie. #coffeeislife
For this tutorial you will need:
➼a mug (I got mine at +Target for $2)
➼ceramic chalkboard paint
➼a paint brush
➼some electrical tape
➼a working oven
➼nail polish remover
Start by washing your mug and cleaning the surface. Make sure your mug has a wide bottom. These ones were the widest I could find. I would have preferred a straighter mug with a wider bottom but these worked fine.
Tape the bottom of the mug ((or mugs since I used two!)) with the electrical tape. make sure you firmly press the tape.
Start painting the bottom horizontally. Wait a few hours for it to dry. Then, paint vertically. Apply as many coats as you want. I did three.
Remove the tap carefully. If you spilled some paint on the mug, use nail polish remover on a Q-tip to touch up.
Place the painted mug in the oven at 170 degrees for 30 minutes. This will secure the paint indefinitely.
Lastly, prep the bottom of the cup surface by gently applying chalk to the entirety. Then wipe it off. Or use your chalkboard pen immediately! You should be set now ❤
I think this would make a very cute Valentines Day gift! What do you guys think?
