Last Self-care Sunday was a good one. Not only was it our date night, I also got my seasonal facial with Divante Med Spa in Studio City. I just could’t pass up the opportunity to get a little pampered but I was more than blown away at the knowledge and service by their dedicated staff. I was given some serious tips on acne prone skin so If you’re like me and you suffer from blemishes, you won’t want to miss this Facial 101 below. But first, lets take a look at my new skin without any foundation or facial cover up.

As you can see, I spared you all the horror of no brows and simply lined them and filled them. However, my face is free of any tinted cream or foundation to show a closer look at my pores and over all texture. I have a redness around my nose due to a pimple that is making it’s way to fruition but my skin feels like baby skin and my makeup application is so much easier.
My esthetician was Kira (you can follow here here on IG) and she has been certified since 2004. She has worked closely with a dermatologist for 12 years gathering up all kinds of useful tips and tricks to balancing oily skin. I was surprised to learn that caffeine is a major culprit to breakouts. So all those cups of coffee should be narrowed down to one. She recommended Differin topical Gel available at drugstores for acne. Just a small pea sized drop will work for the entire face! She also recommended following it up with Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream afterwards. Aveeno has been known to be used both on body and face so there isn’t any threatening transfer done during sleep or unnecessary touching of the face. Beware of fragrant lotions and hair oils too that can get trapped on your pillow and transferred to your face during sleep.
One thing I have been doing right is using my Cetaphil oil control foaming face wash but I’m also going to add Cetaphil Oil Control SPF because it’s vitally important to use even if there isn’t sun out. We chatted about face masks and I was surprised to find out that the Aztec Healing clay mask can be used up to four times a week! We use it every other month here at home. I had no idea I could apply it so frequently.
Applying makeup is so much easier now. There isn’t a need for full coverage and my face is more youthful. I really enjoyed my time there so much, I told my husband who scheduled his own appointment!
