Yes, you could travel back to the 90’s via your diary covered in glitter stickers and poorly cut out Polaroids or you could stream Sex in the city or Friends to get major style inspo that’s totally relevant today! Not only are we seeing 90’s trends come back, they are equally as easy to imitate and personalize to become totally you. Because not all 90’s things were great. Remember the crimper that crippled everyone’s hair growth only to create the most atrocious hairstyle known to humanity? And let’s not get started on baggy overalls and your messy first crush. Leave that in the aforementioned diary… and burn it.
“Do you prefer fashion victim or ensembly challenged?” – Cher
First up, is a see-through mesh top aka sheer blouses or should I say CHER blouse? Shop for sheer sleeves or go bold with a whole see through top like Cher from Clueless in her best ever movie roll (if you ask 1995 Kristin of course.) Other options are sheer dresses that brag a head to toe maxi shape but make sure to dress it accordingly or you might look like grunge swallowed you whole. Which is totally acceptable as that is another 90’s style that has made a full come back. You can shop my picks below but the one I’m wearing is from Missguided and you can shop it (on sale) here.
Strappy kitten heels
Did anyone else not recognize JLo in the above image? I’m sure she would cringe just a bit on that hair style but HEY, her heels are making up for those Diddy days in all their strappy glory. Shop for low heels with abundant straps on the toe and heel. The skinnier the heel, the better. But I tend to feel a bit more comfortable with a bit of a block on mine. Shop these exact heels from J. Adams shoes here (use code: KRIS25 for 25% off!) or find look-a-likes below!
It seems pairing denim over white bodysuits was a go-to in the 90’s. From runway models like Cindy to actresses like Courtney Cox, the bodysuit was more than just part of your jazzercise ensemble, it was coveted as it is now! High-thigh, stretchy fabrics are the best when you want to be cute in your jeans and out of them! My off the shoulder top from above is actually a bodysuit and it’s definitely adding a little sexiness to my outfit. Lately, I’ve been living in Felina bodysuits because they are the softest suits out there. I’ve been in some rather itchy and bothersome ones before and those often end up going in the consignment pile. If you do go the Felina route, make sure you use my code: KRISTINDAWN20 for a discount! Shop body suits from several different retailers below:
