We are headed into another school year and I’m not going to lie, I’m nervous just a bit. Summer was already so weird with the only option for fun being the beach. I am so thankful we live so close to a bunch of open beaches! Once we are back to zoom sessions and distance learning however, those moments of freedom and solitude can easily be put on the back burner. I’ve wanted to craft this space for a while. I do enjoy having a desk bu this particular desk had served me many years and many blog posts you’ve read here. It was my very first desk as a grown woman so departing was a long drawn out event. But, I did it and I have since been using this chair for reading and for chatting on the phone. So here’s how I crafted it and also a closer look at the little details.
You can see the chair immediately when entering the room. The green hue caught my attention although it would not have been my first choice but I loved the structure and the fact that it was large with legs made in gold to stand out. The green actually matches m favorite velvet pillow which sits on top of my bed like a cherry on a sundae. It was easily assembled and is heavy which gives me confidence that I bought a well made, lux chair. I got this one at Target online. My source of online purchases much like my new backyard area chair I shared on the blog a few months back. You can read more about that here if you are interested in a seating area for a small space outdoors.
Here’s what it looked like before. Not too bad but it felt cluttered and a bit messy. You can’t see but there were a lot of exposed wires and the art didn’t feel right on the wall. I had covered my desk with a wrap years before giving it a marble look. Now that I’m not in to marble anything anymore, I can say that giving it up wasn’t as hard as I expected. I felt like it was time to graduate to a more open space and eventually I will get another desk. Just not today. I also have a laptop so I am mobile and I definitely posses a number of table tops that I can work from.
I removed the desk, added the sun mirror, some desenio art and a floor basket to keep my books, a throw blanket, file folders, cords and my laptop. I do intend on switching up the rug soon. But it’s not necessary to me at the moment. The floor basket is from Target too. You can find similar ones here and here. The small gold table I’ve owned for a while and I got it at Ross. The wall art is Desenio and the sun mirror is a darling piece from my friends online shop. You can shop it here. If you want wall art, Desenio has a huge assortment of beautiful art. So, do you like the space? Do you have a seating area that’s functional and freeing?
