Every year I have a blog post filled with inspiration, planners, ideas and fresh goals to achieve. Seriously, go back and check. It was one of my favorite things to do and I felt quite comfortable and happy approaching new problems because I had a clear path. But what if you had your journal, planner and vision board and when you went to start writing you realized, you had no goals?
When everyone was trying out new tik-toks, announcing babies, and reaching new heights, I was barely breathing. I was just hoping to make it through the day without having a breakdown.
If you’ve been following along on my Instagram journey, (I suggest you do. There’s much less writing and more pic’s) then, you will have noticed my disappearing act. That is, I disabled my account before Christmas for over a month. {{ DISCLAIMER: It’s bad for engagement }} Last year was the hardest year of my life and no countdown on NYE was going to change anything. I crawled through Christmas allowing anything to distract me. From the moment I opened my eyes to the time I closed them, I felt heavy with grief. Sometimes my pain would creep in to my dreams and fear would set in waking me in a sea of sweat and tears.
But this story isn’t meant to make you sad. I promise.
It was at the moment I was making a vision board for 2021 that it dawned on me… I was so rocked by 2020 that I subconsciously felt like I had nothing to look forward to. What happened to me, the loss I experienced, the death of who I was left me empty. Much more empty than I was even aware of. I needed to reassess and mostly, I needed to stop worrying so much. I took MORE time to breathe (I mean actual meditation and breathing techniques ) and less time stressing about goals. I actually did have a daily goal and it was to make it through the day. So I started with that.
When I felt a little better, I cleared my home, prayed over it and decided to take another stab at my vision board. After making it, I hung it on my fridge amongst all the finger paint and kid art but then I felt like I wasn’t seeing it all the time. Then I remembered this idea I saw, saying that you can make a vision board online and save it as your iPhone background! I mean, we look at our phones more than we look at our own family these days so what a great place to envision your goals!
Below is my digital vision board. When I started making it, my mind flooded with inspiration and dreams. It seemed like things were looking brighter. Maybe it was due to the fact that I’ve been reading books like “Didn’t see that coming” by Rachel Hollis and practicing being intentional about gratitude. But I have to disclose, I have major heavy days where I want to give up. This particular day wasn’t like that…
Here’s how I made it:
